The best of the Bluebonnets 2019

I’m not going to lie, I almost didn’t do Bluebonnet mini sessions this year. I get really stressed out with mini sessions in general, just because it’s so hard to reschedule multiple families in the event of bad weather. Then if you add in flower scouting and finding the perfect accessible non-trampled, well-bloomed, perfectly lit location, I just wanted to throw my hands up! I’m wondering how many miles I put on my car just looking for just the right spot. (Coincidentally, I shot these half a mile from my house. Joke’s on me!!). All that to say, I LOVED all these SO much and my families were SO great about being patient to find out where we were shooting and everyone brought their A game. My feelings about bluebonnet mini sessions have changed! There’s a good chance these will happen again next year.

I loved these so much that I opened up more spring mini sessions this year- which I don’t usually do! To enter to win a free mini-session (use it anytime!), simply share this blog on social media! (If you don’t share it directly from my page, be sure to tag Captured Austin so I know you shared it :)

I love so many of these and have been dying to share them but didn’t want to overload my IG feed so here I present, the best of the bluebonnets for 2019! Loving how much fun I had with each and every family.

Love these photos? Book a spring mini session!

Baby Levi Fresh 48 Hospital Photo Session | Austin Newborn and Fresh48 Photographer

Have I mentioned that I am currently obsessed with birthplace photography? I haven’t photographed a birth yet, because that is next level time and availability commitment, but the next best thing is capturing those first hours of your new baby’s life. All of us parents marvel at how much babies change in just a few days when they’re brand new. Also, all of us parents know how peaceful it is at the hospital compared to once we return home! Especially if there’s a toddler older sibling in the mix. For these reasons, along with the moody directional light that I get to work with when there’s just one window in the room, I am just in love with these sessions right now. It’s a natural light newborn session without the parents having to do ANYthing. Just hang in your comfy clothes and let me do the work! I always make sure mom and dad are “present” in the photos, but if mom isn’t feeling her best, I focus on her hands or interactions with the baby as opposed to the full on portrait- there will be many of those in their future as a family! Please enjoy these favorites from sweet baby Levi’s hospital session!

Family session at McKinney Falls State Park in Austin, TX | Austin family photographer

This fall I found my FAVORITE family session shooting location. Just east of town is McKinney Falls State Park, and I am in love with the big, flat textured rock and the big sky with trees silouetted behind us. I met this family out there for some fun in the perfect fall sun. They could not be more adorable- can you even handle those redheads?? I did some headshots at the end for mom- it’s so important to take a good photo of mom when she gets all dressed up!

Baby Brooks Fresh48 Hospital Session in Austin, TX | Austin Newborn Photographer

Y’all, this is one of my favorite sessions I have ever done. It was a dark and gloomy day, which made for this amazing moody light. Big sister was so fun, energetic but cooperative, and mom and dad were laid back and over the moon with their tiny little new boy. I loved getting these natural light newborn shots in the comfort of their hospital room. (Well, maybe hospital rooms aren’t THAT comfortable, but better than having to take baby into a studio!). I love the unposed, natural vibe of these sessions. And babies are just so pristine and perfect in their first hours. I literally have about 55 favorites from this session, but I’ve tried to narrow it down for you. Enjoy!

Family Session in Sonoma, CA | Austin Family Photographer

I've posted about my Blair and Thurston retreat in Sonoma before. One of the things we got to do there was shoot a family session with an adorable family of three, in a beautiful field of flowers at Sonoma Broadway Farms, during golden hour. Photographer heaven!!! I've been hunting to find a similar location in Austin. Why doesn't Austin in winter look just like the wine country in spring?? I might have to settle for something a little different. Anyway, the best part was that we got to see Elena and Bre in action posing and directing the family. These are my favorite shots I got of the family:
